FIBO 2026 Concludes: AI Coaches and Green Transition Steal the Show as Global Fitness Industry Accelerates Restructuring
With the successful conclusion of FIBO 2026 in Cologne, Germany, on April 19, the global fitness industry has entered its most important moment of annual trend summarization.
With the successful conclusion of FIBO 2026 in Cologne, Germany, on April 19, the global fitness industry has entered its most important moment of annual trend summarization. This year’s exhibition attracted over 860 exhibitors from 51 countries and more than 106,000 professional visitors, setting new records in both scale and international participation. Over the four-day event, four themes drew the most attention: AI-powered coaching, sustainable practices, women’s specific fitness solutions, and silver-generation rehabilitation training. The Runtoway Fitness team, with over two decades of international trade experience and full participation at the show, noted that these cutting-edge trends are moving from “concept demonstration” to “commercial implementation,” bringing structural opportunities to the global fitness equipment supply chain.
FIBO 2026 Review: AI Coaches Move from Demonstration to Daily Use
At this year’s FIBO Confex Hall, AI-driven fitness experiences took center stage. Unlike previous years, the AI solutions on display were no longer laboratory prototypes but mass-producible, integrable commercial products. For example, several companies showcased camera‑ or 3D‑sensor‑based motion capture systems that analyze user posture in real time and provide voice‑based corrections without the need for additional wearable devices. Such technology has begun to be integrated into smart treadmills, rowing machines and strength training stations, giving traditional fitness equipment the capability of a “real-time personal coach.”
Another prominent trend was “data connectivity.” Almost all smart fitness equipment on display came standard with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or NFC modules, enabling seamless connection to mainstream fitness apps and wearable devices. Exhibitors generally agreed that consumers are no longer satisfied with isolated equipment functions but rather seek end-to-end data tracking from warm-up through training to recovery. This demand is forcing equipment manufacturers to enhance their software and algorithm integration capabilities.
Green Transition: Recyclability and Low-Carbon Fitness Equipment Become New Competitive Barriers
The “sustainability” theme at FIBO 2026 ran through all exhibition halls. The upcoming EU regulations on energy efficiency labeling and recyclability have turned environmental protection from a corporate social responsibility slogan into a direct market access requirement. Several leading European brands showcased equipment made from recycled aluminum, ocean plastic‑regenerated fibers, and bio‑based polyurethane. At the same time, modular design has become a new trend – equipment components can be easily disassembled, repaired or upgraded, greatly extending product life cycles.
Chinese exhibitors also made active progress in green transformation. Some companies launched products using water‑based coatings instead of traditional solvent‑based paints, and adopted FSC‑certified cartons and biodegradable cushioning materials. During the exhibition, the “Green Design Guide for Fitness Equipment,” released by the European fitness industry association, received endorsements from over 100 manufacturers including Chinese companies. It is foreseeable that within the next two years, the ability to provide carbon footprint reports and recyclability certificates will become a key screening condition for international procurement.
Race Economy: HYROX Global Expansion Accelerates, Asia-Pacific Becomes New Growth Engine
At the sports event forum held concurrently with FIBO, HYROX operators released the latest data: in the first four months of the 2026 season, global registered participants have already exceeded 450,000, with the full year projected to surpass 1.3 million. The Asia-Pacific region performed particularly well – the early‑April Singapore event attracted 14,000 athletes from 58 countries, while the mid‑April debut in Wuhan also received an enthusiastic response. HYROX announced the addition of new events in Mumbai, India, and Seoul, South Korea, by the end of 2026, further refining its Asia-Pacific footprint.
The continued rise of the race economy has directly driven demand for functional training equipment. From sleds and rowing machines to agility ladders and medicine balls, inquiries for professional-grade training gear saw significant year-over-year growth at the exhibition. Many fitness equipment manufacturers have set up dedicated “event training product lines” to serve this fast-growing market segment.
Women‘s Fitness and Silver Economy: Structural New Growth Tracks
FIBO 2026 launched for the first time a “Women’s Fitness Innovation Zone” and an “Active Aging Solutions Center,” reflecting the high level of industry attention to these two consumer groups. In the women‘s zone, specialized training programs and equipment tailored to pregnancy, postpartum and menopause stages were highlights. For example, multi-functional training stations with adjustable resistance, small-diameter dumbbells designed for women’s hands, and smart yoga mats integrated with pelvic floor muscle training attracted significant purchase orders.
At the “Active Aging” center, low-impact cardio equipment, balance training devices, and dual-task training systems combining cognitive and motor exercises drew keen interest from professional buyers. Exhibitors generally believe that as global population aging intensifies, the fitness population aged 50+ will be the fastest-growing user segment over the next five years. This trend requires equipment designs that prioritize safety, ease of use, and social interaction.
Runtoway Fitness‘s Show Observations and Strategic Response
“The strongest signal from FIBO 2026 is that the fitness equipment industry is shifting from ‘hardware competition’ to comprehensive competition in ‘hardware + software + services,’” said a Runtoway Fitness spokesperson at the exhibition. “The practical implementation of AI coaching, the regulatory push toward green manufacturing, and the segmentation of user needs are together reshaping the value chain. We’ve noticed that buyers are no longer only asking about price and delivery time; they are increasingly interested in data interface openness, environmental certifications, and design details tailored to specific groups such as women and seniors.”
“Leveraging over two decades of foreign trade experience, Runtoway Fitness has already made proactive moves: our smart treadmill product line is fully compatible with mainstream health apps, and we have established technical partnerships with several AI sports analysis platforms. On the green manufacturing front, we are advancing ISO 14001 environmental management system certification and actively adopting recyclable packaging. We believe that only by keeping pace with these structural trends can we continue to create value for our global partners.”
